I’ve been waiting nearly a year for refunds, doubt I would be one of the £4 million.  Even if they write you and you promptly respond there is no sign of any refund being made.

I have requested a refund over a month ago, no sign of it yet. I went online and used their ‘when’s it due’ tool. It came back saying they have a backlog and are currently working on May refunds and not to expect anything until November and maybe even 13 weeks after that!

You would make a lot of people happy if you shared how you got access to the Goverment Gateway to view tax account etc without a passport and driving licence to prove who you are

    By answering security questions online

You’ll have to answer some security questions about things like your mobile phone contract, and any bank accounts, credit cards, loans or mortgages you may have.

You also need to enter details from one of the following:

    • UK passport
    • UK photocard driving licence
    • a current account with a UK bank or building society

That is for a One log in which does not yet include access to the on line tax account.  https://home.account.gov.uk/services-using-one-login
You used to be able to prove identity for the GG without DL or PP, myself and MrsM signed up that way - both only had relevant ID in the past couple of years, but they stopped that a while back.

Hope Martin Lewis will highlight how many of those 4 million are excluded from Government Gateway access to their tax details online.
