Argos Upgrades??

After seeing on this board last summer about how Argos were supplying the Navman N40i when you paid for the F20 I bought one for Mums birthday.
She didn't use it for weeks and then went away on holiday. Loved it, used it every day. When she stopped at the services for a wee (not to be ripped off by them!) on the way home she duly turned it off and took it in with her. When she came back out it wouldn't power up, plugged it in and still wouldn't power up.
13th November we took it back to Argos, they said it had to go for repair and would take 2 to 3 weeks. Heard nothing, couldn't call on the 0845 number so popped in a couple of times.
Yesterday we went in ready to do battle, Mum insisted that this was too long and she wanted a replacement. They phoned Navman and said she could have one - I was dubious as they would be replacing the F20 we bought and not the N40i which we had. So they tapped in the number for the F20 and had one sent down.
Down came..... an F10. We expressed concern that this is a LOWER model and the saleslady said indeed it was and that this is all wrong but it kept happening despite their policy being to offer an upgrade if out of stock. The F10 is a model that Argos don't sell, indeed it seems hard to pick up anywhere now.
We are going to go back again on Monday for a refund, we didn't have the original receipt (and the price has gone down since) or the box (which they told us to keep when the sent the other one off).
So did they try and give us a lower model or not - I can't find any direct comparisons on the web (It was definately a lower model than the N40i!)

I have had a quick look. I have found a few review on the F10. One of the sites I looked at was:
http://www.mynewcheap.co.uk/products/details/navman-f10-gb-sat-nav/11213/
The only reason I looked at this particular site was that it has all three units. The F10 seems to sell for £95 to £99. The F20 is £150 on the above site. I know that this is not always an accurate guide but personally I would not accept the F10 as a replacement. Surely the better models have higher model numbers not lower. I don't know how replacements work but I don't think that they have to give you the same spec as the upgraded unit although they should. I know that the only reason I purchased the unit was I knew that I would get the N40 rather than the F20. Have they said that you will get a refund? If they haven't I do not think that they could refuse to as they need to put you back in the position when you purchase the unit, N40 (or equil) or your money back. Is it just your local Argos offering the F10 instead of the F20 or is there a possibility they could get you another N40 from another store?
Just as a side issue did you experience any problems with the mount of the unit? I have found that sometimes it will not stick to the windscreen even if I made sure both surfaces are clean. I thought that perhaps I had a usual curve to my windscreen but the same thing happened yesterday in my friend's car.0 -
Thanks for that link - yep its definately a lower model.
We don't have to take it we can get a refund but have to wait till we can go back with the original reciept otherwise we would only get a refund at the current (lower) price.
Mum would be quite happy with the F20, TBH she found the N40i was a bit complex and was going to swap it for my F20 after the holiday.
We havn't had any problems with the windscreen mount on either of these BUT I bought a hands free kit last week and the rubbery bit that goes on the screen had a bit of a kink in it and would not stick at all, a replacement for another one without a kink and it stuck just fine. Might be worth taking a closer look at yours to see if there is some sort of fault on it.The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0
