Hi all, I am getting the use of a friends cash and carry card and wondered what items work out better value than the supermarket to buy? and if anyone had done a price comparison per kilo on things?

I will bump up the thread with my comment:
I previous held a Costco card and found that we there were lots of things such as meat and fish were reasonably priced if you had a big freezer. In addition, toilet rolls were really cheap too!
But to be honest, I think we always bought too much of everything to really make any savings, so sadly the cheapest form of cash and carry for me is avoiding a visit!!!Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I use Bookers for work and I think that on many things they are more expensive than supermarkets....especially when you have added the VAT to vatable stuff.
For home, I get washing up liquid....£1.69 +vat for 5L, it is cheap and cheerful, but I refill my Fairy bottle.
Thin bleach £1.69 +vat for 5L, a lot more powerful than supermarkets thin bleach.
I occasionally buy meat, but it does depend upon each stores customer base as to the meat....if I visit the more 'catering' based store, then I find the meat a lot better than the one that most of the independant shops use.
I would check on something like mysupermarket.com for the prices of basics and then you have something to work on.
Usually things are cheaper in supermarkets, but at cash and carrys they are often still packed in bulk and are easier to load and unload. Trays of 24 cans or packs of bottled waters.
My other find is a 1L squeezy bottle of bar-b-que sauce, I can't recall the exact price, but it was cheap and it is yummy. (the ketchup and brown sauces aren't too bad either)Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

We use Makro, and very rarely would we buy any "normal" shopping there as they are more expensive. They can be good for special offers though, and I try to get my washing tablets there when they are on special offer. If you want to shop there the trick is to make a list of what you want, how much you can get it for in the supermarket, and be very strict. Make sure you know which of yout items have VAT on and add that on in your calculations too.
Worth noting that about 50% of the time I end up at the CS desk because we have been overcharged for something.
My OH seems to think they are cheap for bulk buying cigars too - don't know about cigarettes though. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Hello to everyone,
Thought I would post a few excellent bargains I have found in Bookers [luton] recently. They are all individual buys so dont have to outlay a fortune to save.
Here they are:
On the fresh meat counter 454g of chicken breast fillets for £2.25, this works out £5 a kilo, which I cannot find cheaper in any supermarket [excluding great offers] average cheapest around £6.50 a kilo, the chicken seems to be a good quality as well.
Fresh meat again, 330g of top rump steak for £2 this is a awesome bargain as steak in supermarkets is around £9/kg, this works out just over £6/kg an excellent saving, the meat again is fresh and good quality for price.
Happy shopper Garden peas 55p for 680g, have 79p on pack but you pay 55p.
Milk comes in 2l and is 79p for 1% fat, and full fat is 85p per 2l if you buy 4, handy if you have space in freezer or a big family. This offer is only beaten by asda buy 2 [4 pint] for £2 deal at the minute, and is infinatly better than tescos scandalous 2 for £3 deal, you save a pound for every 2 bought on that deal.
This is their regular price and is therefore guaranteed for a while unlike asda deal which was just to match morrisons price dip. I think
Also on my trip tonight saw that they are doing bogof on 24pk on 'cashmere' loo rolls for £9, have not tried these yet, but the deal works out at 19p per roll this saves 14p per roll on asda shades best deal. Saving around a fiver over the 48 rolls. I think you have to add VAT to the toilet roll price, but still a great deal.
I hope this all helps, the chicken one I thought was excellent as the packets are perfect size, and we get through loads of fillets so annually a big saving can be made, also there reduction policy was decent, fillets reduced from 2.25 to 1.30, I was in there just before 5.
Will post more as I find.0
