@SneakySpectator. Sounds as though you don’t like cycling, an e-bike won’t make it any more enjoyable.  DD1 used to cycle to work in central London, but she showered and changed her clothes when she got there.

The direct(ish) route to DD2’s house goes via a big hill. I have adopted a longer route because it enables me to go round the hill instead of up it.  Doing a hill on a main road in London in rush hour was not a good experience.  I am a big fan of routes that use back streets and parks.  Also although I hate to admit it, I am fat.
I'm not doing it for enjoyment, I don't enjoy driving to work either. But an ebike would absolutely stop me from arriving to work soaking wet from sweat because a third of the journey is on an slight incline.

I had a test ride from Halfords and the ebike was amazing, I was riding up the hill and it was totally effortless, felt like I was cycling on flat ground and was pretty much 15.5mph the entire way. On a push bike the journey took me 20 minutes, on the ebike the same journey took me 12 minutes.

Sweat is largely a function of how hard you're working and rain. So I'd definitely invest in good waterproof cycling gear.

An e-bike will make life easier, and cost a lot more, but you can likely achieve the same effect by slowing down a bit and using lower gearing. 17 minutes is only going to be around 2-3 miles?

My cycle is about 6 miles (35-40 mins) and apart from a steep bit at the start pretty flat so as long as it's a nice day I get to work on a regular bike fairly fresh smelling. On the way home I can push a lot harder though.

Plus obviously the downhill on the way back is going to be pretty easy in any case.
