Total Income/Tax Payslip Service Help

Options
Hi all,

I need help finding a service (if there is one) who help those to go over their payslips regarding the total amount of income paid as well as tax, please?

Some context; I received a letter from HMRC compliance saying I owe more tax than what was declared on my self-assessment. In reality, the only tax I should be due to pay is what isn't declared on my payslip (ESPP), as all tax, including securities (stock options/RSUs) would have been paid through my employer via PAYE for a particular tax year and is visiblee on my payslip. And I have a suspicion, given all the numbers I have been able to calculate myself so far, that my employer has made a mistake somewhere and hasn't paid the tax during my employment with them. But I need an expert to verify if this is true or not, before I can go back to my employer for them to investigate.

Does such a service exist? And to caveat, outside of accountants.

Thanks in advance.

I suspect there isn't a service in the way you have described it.

And you have probably misunderstood something somewhere, in particular with your own tax responsibilities.

The service you describe is an accountant - why do you not want to use one? Sometimes you can see them called "tax advisors" - and if the label does change - what they do is the same.

I assumed there may have been another role similar to what I am asking such as a payroll manager who could go through this, as I've already had a terrible experience with my current accountant and previous ones in the past, hence why I would like to find a service that is standalone - if any.

Anybody who would advertise to give such advice would need to qualified and backed by a finance body - hence the reason why an account is probably your best bet - or some bloke down the pub.

Are you sure all the untaxed income you mentioned is actually accounted for in your tax code number, and is that code number shown on your payslip?
Employers can only apply the code they are given by HMRC, so if the code on your payslip is different to the one in your online tax account it’s your responsibility to first check with your payroll department to make sure they have up to date information, then contact HMRC.
Did HMRC send you a calculation of the underpayment, it will also be in your online account.
