Has anyone got / had experience of the EVEC home charger?
My PodPoint has finally given up after 8 years (solid red light) and I'm thinking of replacing it. I don't require a smart charger - and after reading some of the reports of their foibles on various forums - I don't really want one.
TIA

Hi Dave. Not trying to be 'official and boring', but I think all home chargers now need to be 'smart', so that power supply can be managed in times of supply shortage, even if only theoretical.
Although, saying that, perhaps a like for like 'dumb' replacement is allowed in cases like yours, I don't know?
I'm a dumb fan, so to speak, as we had loads of issues with our charger, until we used TP links to semi-directly connect it to the router.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

If you want a dumb unit, I think you're mostly looking at cheap drop-shipped ones not specifically intended for the UK market. Or perhaps an Open EVSE kit?N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.

The EVEC unit has a dip switch inside which switches it between dumb and smart. It is the price which attracts me to this model.
Has anyone had any experience of using it in either mode?

I've bought an EVEC charger unit and fitted it. The new models are different from the one described in the Installation and Service Manual I had down-loaded from the internet. The updated manual was supplied with the unit. The settings for smart control / dumb are now all within the new app. Early days yet for commenting on the app, but in dumb mode the unit works just fine - with the details of the charging displayed in the app.Dave FSolar PV System 1: 2.96kWp South+8 degrees.
