Paraffin smell in carpet

I recently broke a Galileo thermometer and the internal liquid leaked onto the carpet. I was on it immediately and because of this there is no stain. I am thankful for that.
I do occasionally get a whiff from where the liquid leaked. It smells of paraffin and from what I felt and saw of the liquid I don't think it was ethanol but a paraffin/oil/water mix. The carpet pile itself does not feel damp, so I guess the solution seeped into the padding/underlay.
The carpet is a Wilton and only two years old, I had it fitted professionally. It covers both my two reasonably sized reception rooms.
I have tried using a dehumidifer to dry out the area, have ventilated thoroughly, used a full tin of bicarbonate of soda which I left overnight before vacuuming (I tried two applications of this) and have used a white vinegar solution. I cannot seem to shift it. I don't know if it is a case of the remedies I have tried being ineffective or if they are unable to reach the paraffin/oil. It is only a small area but right next to my sofa where I usually sit.
If I have to get professionals in then so be it, but for a small area (no bigger than 30cm x 30 cm) I was hoping to address the problem myself.
If anyone can offer some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

I would expect that the smell would eventually evaporate Aristotle67 - could the smell actually be on furniture which was maybe splashed when the thermometer smashed?
Are you able to borrow a V4x wet and dry carpet cleaner or something similar from a friend - it may be that you need to get underneath the carpet into the underlay??
It may be a case of wait and see given there is no stain. I'd definitely wait a little before calling in a professional outfit.
Good luck,

Thanks, Working Mum. I appreciate your input.
The smell is definitely not from the furniture and it does seem to be improving...slowly. When I put my nose close to the carpet where the spillage occurred it is noticable. One concern I have is I like having candles lit around the place, especially later in the year, so will have to be extra careful with them.
Thank you once again. Much obliged!0
