Just to reassure you further, it is common for things like this to happen when Civil Servants change employer within the scheme. It is distressing for individuals encountering it for the first time with their own pension, but commonplace for those dealing with it, and has been that way for years.
The tradition has been for these sort of things to be picked up at retirement when records are scrutinised in detail, but it is better if individuals can keep an eye on their member record (checking information in payslips, P60, ABS, and the pension portal is all as expected) and correct mistakes as they happen (but few do).

Thank you for taking the time to reply, that’s incredibly reassuring. When I asked the MyCSP call handler if this does happen a lot and how easily fixable it is, he said he’d never seen it before, which was somewhat less reassuring.

Is MyCSP being transferred back to Capita? I’d want this resolved before that happened…..

I don't think that's something I have much control over, but have picked up with HR too

Just to reassure you further, it definitely happens as it happened to me a couple of years before I retired. In my case, the years in Classic before the move to Classic Plus "disappeared". I nagged them and eventually got our HR partner to nag her contacts and after several weeks they confirmed they had corrected the data. They refused to issue a revised ABS with the correct info as I had had my one for the year!

Thank you, that's good to know. My HR department is not being that helpful, saying it as pre-my employment with them, so they don't hold the info. The issue is, the departments I worked in no longer exist... Just to make it it all the more ridiculous, I've been in the same same directorate the whole time, just MOGed three times.
