Current payment processing backlog

We paid several years contributions a week before the April deadline. We have checked with HMRC and they have definitely received the money. All we need now is for them to process the payment and allocate it to the appropriate years.

There is a backlog however. I saw a HMRC forum post from a couple of months ago that suggested the backlog is around 65 weeks!

Does anyone know any different? Any idea of how the long the backlog is now? Thanks.

How far from SPA are you?  I suspect that they will prioritise those who will reach SPA first, rather than by date of receipt.

In May 2024 HMRC cashed a cheque from me covering voluntary contributions for 16 past years. My record still hasn’t been updated and it’s June 2025 … so a 65-week delay doesn’t sound at all improbable to me.

It's only urgent if you areclose to SPA.  If you are not then it will parked on the back burner until it quieten down. A pipe can only cope with so much volume ...... Productivity is achieved by priortising.

3.5 years away, so no great urgency.
  • Woo hoo! The £6,500 (approx) payment has just been applied and the pension forecast for 2029 is now for the full amount of £230.25

It took 14 weeks, so way better than the 65 weeks I had read previously.

    Wow you did well.
I had spent over 18 months trying to get through to discuss my top up and was close to SPA so concentrated of claiming that which was another story but got it paid on the due date.
I then concentrated on getting my 4 years paid up following advice from the DWP IPC Review and Recon Team.
I followed their instructions and paid over by bank transfer to HMRC on 26th February 2025 after being advised by DWP that it would take appx 8 weeks before any increase took place.
It's now over 25 weeks and I'm still waiting - any clues as to next step from anyone please?

I paid for my final 2 years yesterday as I reach SPA in January.  Was surprised how simple it was I simply logged into my bank from the HMRC web site and the confirmation email said payment will show in my account in 3-5 days.  Not sure if that means my NI record and pension forecast will be updated though
