State Pension and winter fuel allowance question.

Apologies if I am posting in the wrong forum.
I am 66 on January 6th 2026 when I will start to receive my state pension. I would like to ask whether anyone would knows if I qualify for the winter fuel payment. My feeling is that I do not, which I feel is a little unfair, I should get the pro-rata amount for the proportion of the winter. My income is not a factor. Thanks in advance.

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -

It's all or nothing for the winter.....so it's a no for you.
"The Winter Fuel Payment for 2025 to 2026 will be made to everyone in England and Wales born before 22 September 1959, unless you choose not to get it. You could get either £200 or £300 to help you pay your heating bills for winter."I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Yeah, I thought as much, but wondered whether the gov had considered this scanario. Never mind, I will just have to freeze :-) Thanks for your time to confirm0

If things are really tight and you have what might be described as a "negative budget" you might check if there's a household support fund from your local council. Might be worth £200 which might be able to take as utility vouchers. Check the council website and apply as soon as they open for applications. The money goes fast.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know.
