Hello all

my husband was working at claiming my marriage tax allowance. However on 31st march we did a swap. So I’m working and he’s at home with the children.

so effectively we want to swap. I sent off a letter stating the change and requesting the new allowance, my husbands is applied to mine. They replied back saying it couldn’t be done until I ended the current allowance, which I did?

so can I change it? I’m really confused by it

The person who made the claim has to cancel it.
Then he would have to apply to transfer his to you
    Online or phone application

You have this totally the wrong way round. Your husband, not you, must apply for marriage allowance in order for you to benefit from the transfer.

You transferred part of your personal allowance to your husband

You need to cancel that transfer but cancellation is only done at the end of the tax year.  So if you cancel after 5 April  2025 the allowance continues until 5 April 2026.

You can cancel by phone- best time to call is as soon as lines open- or online.

You now wish your husband to transfer part of his allowance to you. He needs to complete the form online to to do this.
