Wine in big bottles

It might only be once a month, but it is still binging (and even though just once a month is still having a negative effect on the wider family).MattMattMattUK said:
To be fair drinking one bottle once a month is hardly binging.[Deleted User] said:But she only does it occasionally maybe once a month and gets very offended at the mere mention of binging on wine!I have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!1 -
One bottle in one go occasionally is the definition of a binge.MattMattMattUK said:

Most supermarkets / off licences I'm aware of only sell beer in a minimum of four bottle / can packs - often six packs or even 12/15 bottle cases, so I'm not sure your comparison really makes sense.[Deleted User] said:If I drunk beer I wouldn't buy a 5 pint bottle, I'd buy 250/330ml bottles and have one at a time.
As others have said, it's perfectly possible to get individual small cans or bottles of wine, although they tend to work out considerably more expensive than a 75cl bottle if you don't have the will power to restrict your consumption.0 -

Also the short term harms increase as a result of drinking between 5 and 7 units
This is a cut and paste directly from the link you provided:More than 8 units of alcohol in a single session for males, or more than 6 units in a single session for females is the technical definition. That’s equivalent to about four pints of normal strength beer for a man or three pints for a woman. We know that the risks of short-term harms like accidents or injuries increase between two to five times as a result of drinking between 5 and 7 units of alcohol in a single drinking session, compared with not drinking any alcohol at all.Dept of Health / Gov website suggests a typical bottle of 11% ABV wine at 750ml is 8.2 units

Single bottles / cans of beer are readily available in supermarkets, it's not just 4/6/12 packs they sell.p00hsticks said:

Edit: Ocado currently has 59 different beers in single bottles.0 -
They do she chooses not to buy them.[Deleted User] said:Hello my mother buys big wine bottles and occasionally opens one and one glass becomes a whole bottle and waking up the house at 2 am having finished the whole bottle. Then regretting it next day.

Why can't wine be the same so people have more chance of controlling intake, not finishing a whole bottle to themselves and waking the house up on their way to bed ?
Your mother is a grown adult who can do as she pleases
So what if you get woken up 1 night a month? Or she feels rubbish the next day - she knows she will but chooses to do so.
Pop some ear plugs in on her binge night.
I could understand the complaint far more if it was daily or even weekly but 12 times a year doesn't seem unreasonable0 -
Agreed and Home Bargains is full of single bottles and cans.Emmia said:

do as she pleases - including negatively impacting on others
12 times a year - Why does the mother need to do it at all?I have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!0 -
Big bottles are rare, you occasionally see a magnum (2x standard bottle) in supermarkets but really have to go hunting for a Jeroboam (4x standard bottle) or Nebuchadnezzar (20x standard bottle).[Deleted User] said:Hello my mother buys big wine bottles and occasionally opens one and one glass becomes a whole bottle and waking up the house at 2 am having finished the whole bottle. You can also buy smaller than a standard bottle plus cans are increasingly available.
If you are the sort of person thats going to finish a bottle (equivalent to 3 pints) then you are not likely to be the type of person that buys one 250ml bottle of beer for the night. You are more likely to buy a 4 pack (or more) and equally consume the lot before bedtime.
It's not simply the bottle size thats the issue else someone would drink a whole bottle of whiskey or gin in a night which despite being a similar size to a bottle of wine is much rarer.0
