Smelly dishwasher

Options
Awful awful ‘wet dog’ smell! We have cleaned out literally everything and every part of our dishwasher, filters, seals, spray arms, then put a dishwasher cleaner on in the empty machine on intensive wash. We always put intensive cycle on anyway. And STILL this awful smell which means I have to rinse a plate to use it! We don’t eat eggs as I’ve read something that this could be a reason. We leave the machine to dry fully.

I have smelled a similar smell on dishes when I’ve stayed in some hotels! HELP anyone?

Have you disconnected the supply pipe and checked the water coming through that?
Have you checked the waste pipe to make sure it is not backflowing into the dishwasher?

Thank you for your response but why the supply pipe as this is pressurised mains water?

Largely just for completeness, but you never know, weird things can happen.

Do you live in a hard water area? The build up of limescale can give off a sulphur smell, which is like rotten eggs.  Learned this when I was on holiday, feeling really pleased we had a dishwasher only it was smelly.

I was informed by the hosts it was caused by the limescale build up.  They said they used a dishwasher cleaner monthly.

I'd try a dishwasher cleaning tablet - occasionally you get free ones in bags of regular dishwasher tablets.

Do you just use the eco cycle by any chance? Ours gets a whiff if we don't run a non eco cycle once every couple of weeks - if you only use the eco I'd try running it on a non eco cycle.

Thanks but as stated in my post - I’ve just used a cleaning tablet to no avail and I always use Intensive cycle!

It says ours is a ‘ Medium’ water area… I’ll investigate!

I’d be tempted to run a cycle with a couple of cut up lemons in the dishwasher, but I am no expert.
