Is it normal that I can't book seats next to each other on Qatar flight from Brisbane to Manchester?

Hi all
Just wanted to check if it was normal that I couldn't book 6 seats next to each other from Brisbane to Manchester with Qatar Airways? I go to book the flights
8th January 2026 (QATAR) Depart 15:10 (Flight 8404)
Brisbane to Doha
Doha to Manchester
However, the Brisbane to Doha leg says I can't book specific seats. I really don't want all 6 family members split up.
Any ideas guys?

We just flew with Qatar at easter to Sydney. We booked seats on each leg for 3 people. Maybe its because you are a large family. If all attempts fail ring them and ask them to book them that way

I suspect that this may be related to being codeshare-ish

Virgin Australia flight number is VA15. May be worth seeing if you can find your PNR that can be used on the VA site and try to book seats there1 -
Yes that will be it, i had similar with a code share with air Dubai 2 years ago.

It will be the code-share issue that Caz3121 has picked up on.
The VA routing between various Australian points and DOH does seem to be still in the set up and website infancy stage at the moment. Very little on the VA website about the new (QR operated) service plus as of last week still not bookable for UK originating traffic.1
