Mortgage broker issues

Hello. I’m after some advice please. My mortgage broker issued me with a KFI and I signed and agreed to the rate on this, for whatever reason they didn’t apply for the mortgage for 2 weeks so the rate went. They then send me a new KFI with a higher rate on which I did not sign or agree to, so I decided to go to another broker and got a cheaper deal through them. I emailed to advise I no longer require the original brokers help as I’m going elsewhere. The broker then told me they’d already submitted the application on the new higher rate even though I’d not agreed to it and requested their broker fee.
Would I be in the right to not pay the fee? And raise a complaint and dispute this? As they only contacted me after I’d told them to leave it to tell me they’d submitted it and then sent confirmation email, which makes me thing they submitted it quickly to try and keep the business

thanks for any help

It sounds like your first mortgage broker are useless.  I wouldn't pay them anything.  I'd raise a complaint over their atrocious service.
I've used London & Country in the past and this time I'm using Mojo Mortgage as my broker.  Both of these get paid by the  mortgage lender.  Not sure why you chose a broker who you'd have to pay a fee to.  It's not like you get a better service..infact it sounds like you get quite the opposite
