Old Abbey National Mortgage Account (now with Santander)

Has anybody successfully managed to deal with Santander regarding an old Abbey National mortgage from 1969, that was paid off late80s/early 90s, but would appear Abbey National did not issue a vacating receipt? We are unable to register the house with land reg as there is a legal charge, and this is holding up the house sale.
Many thanks

It seems you need to supply Santander with the title number of the charge and they will remove it.

Thanks so much Twixty3. The additional problem we have is that the property is unregistered with the land registry. The legal charge will need to be removed to satisfy the Land Registry when the Deeds are submitted for first registration by the buyer’s Solicitors.
