Tesco - every penny helps . . . . themselves!

Today I wanted some onions, so I selected a few, put them on the customer scale (sans bag) and printed a label which I then stuck onto one onion. At the checkout my onions rolled around on the conveyor. The assistant scanned the barcode, gathered them all up onto the scale to check I was not adding extra after printing the label, then scanned the barcode again to enter the amount on my bill. I then chased them around to gather them up into my already paid for net bag. Very satisfying. I have all day to shop and often the checkout operator may be the only person I talk to in days. Tesco have not yet offered to pay me to be my own checkout person.
Technique established. But shall look out for the click and collect bags - not objecting to paying for new packaging, just not prepared to pay over and over by stealth for something I already paid 30p for. I do find the net bags also useful for holding socks, handkerchiefs etc when either washing them or packing small items in a suitcase or rucsac for travel.0 -
I tend to put produce on the scale loose, mainly because I rarely remember to grab the net bags (we are "bags always in the car" people so I just grab the next bags to hand from the boot!).
Also, for those saying "oh, it's only a penny" - this IS a moneysaving forum, and so the OP's point is both relevant and helpful. If you aren't bothered about money saving, then perhaps scroll on to somewhere more appropriate to you. Ultimately though, if an organisation the size of Tesco are firstly charging you for something, and then raising a further ongoing charge each time you use the thing they have charged you for, it is a bit poor of them and deserves to be flagged up!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I don't use the veg bags at all, the 2-3 loose onions can go into the carrier bag loose.
The scales to print barcodes are intended for those doing scan as you go, I would always expect checkout staff to weigh it if they are scanning it.0 -

Just my opinion but I detest Tesco & never shop there (due to examples like this & more )
We go to Tesco occasionally but never had our fruit & veg re weighed.0 -
Was it Stephen Fry said (from memory) “I’m a big fan of Sainsbury's, it keeps the wannabe’s out of Waitrose.”I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.0
