Council Tax Refund. SMI - severely mentally impaired

I have had help writing this. I am SMI. I have been paying council tax and living in the same rented place since 2013. I have paid coucnicl tax all the time till a few months ago. My SMI certificate is dated 2016. The council only refunded for 1 year (2024), about £1000. Should I have got more? If so, how do I claim more? PLease help

Each council sets their own rules. Many will only backdate up to 3 months. You should complain to the council via their complaints policy which will be on their website and ask for their policy on backdating.JonniesSohcahtoa said:I have had help writing this. I am SMI. if you have had an SMI certificate since 2016, Is there a reason that you are only now chasing repayments? The answer to your question may lie in the details and why you have not had the discount before now. When did the council first see it?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
