Where can I buy grated mozzarella fo topping my home made pizza? Lidl used to sell it but I haven't seen it there for a while. Tesco have it at £1.34 for 250 g but I am sure it is cheaper elsewhere. Thanks.

I think everywhere has gone up to this price lately (I'm an authority on this subject
) - Sainsbury were at £1.05 until recently but last time I was there it was £1.05 on the shelf but they charged £1.34 at the till. I got the money back at CS but I'm guessing the shelf price just hadn't caught up with the new actual price.

No need to use expensive grated mozzerela. Simply chop into small pieces and mix with cheddar you have grated. The mozzorella from Lidl is fine for this. I dont think mozzerela is meant to be grated. If on pizza it works well. I slice for sandwiches and snacks. If cooking it melts anyway so doesnt matter.
Hope this helps0 -
It doesn't have to be grated for pizza. If you use a ball of mozzarella in a water-filled pouch, you just peel pieces off and scatter over your pizza. Much more authentic looking and Lidl have it cheap -sorry can't remember how much exactly.0

don't buy tescos value mozzerella style cheese - its truly vile
netto usually sell the grated stuff but they haven't had it in for a while either'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
To be honest you are better getting a lump of it and either breaking off lumps or slicing it - the grated "mozzerella" is usually mozzerella style cheese anyway.
I usually use grated cheader as a base, optional chorizo sausage and then have lumps of mozzerella over a dob of fresh or "Gormet Garden" basil - super!
Make your bases as thin as possible - I use an upside down cast iron roasing dish which I pre heat in the oven to 250 degrees so the bases get nice and crisp and the pizza cooks in about 5 mins!0 -
Some great ideas here. What I do is buy normal round mozzarella (often find it in the reduced section of supermarkets) then freeze it. When I am making pizza, I just take it out of freezer maybe 30mins or so before I need it and grate it when it is still frozen as is it so much easier to do! Really cheap, easy and yummy plus doing it like this I find one small mozzarella can be scattered over several pizzas and cooks really quickly - all very money saving:j
