What's the best way to do this journey.

I am going to see Beat the Chasers in London next month (on Saturday).  Now I'll be able to get there from where I live (Sudbury, Suffolk) fairly easily, but getting back will be a bit harder.  According to the email, the show finishes at 9:30 pm.  That means it will be too late for me to get back to Sudbury in time.  But trains to Colchester run later (where I can then get picked up).
Now on to my question, would be cheaper to catch a bus to Colchester (which I can get for free with a disabled bus pass), and return back to colchester, or is there a cheaper way to travel from Sudbury, and return to Colchester?

Many thanks.

I can't tell you about buses but I can tell you something about attending a television recording. Be sure to get there very early! They allocate more tickets than there are places and people queue for ages beforehand. Those at the back of the queue don't get in.

Pay a friend some petrol money to take you to a zone 6 station like Harold wood. Even a taxi would probably be cheaper than using greater Anglia!

I know it says that in the email.
The only person who can pick me up is my dad, and I don't know if he'll travel much further than Colchester.

Travelling via Colchester is a good option, as the cheaper advance tickets are available at Colchester but not at Sudbury.

Most "split ticket" websites won't propose a split at Colchester as it is further than the normal change point of Marks Tey.  It's a reasonable split point as the trains that have advance tickets are expresses (not calling at MKT) so not much extra time to take the longer way via COL.  Get a flexible single or return for SUY to COL.  I presume you have disabled person's railcard to further reduce cost.

I spoke to the conductor of the Sudbury train the other day, and they said they would sell me a return from Colchester on the Sudbury to Marks Tey train.
