ACI (and other collection agencies)

Thought I’d provide an update on this for anyone searching the forum in the future who may find themselves in a similar situation to me.
Despite the numerous letters, phone calls, threats, and a few home visits (which I just ignored), every one of my debts became prescribed without any action.
ACI were probably the most ‘active’ and did arrange home visits (2 that I am aware of were followed through with) but eventually stopped once the prescription date passed. They seemed to be the only agency who actually named a legal firm who they threatened to pass the case to, but ultimately this came to nothing.MFDP were another agency that made a lot of noise and ‘selected’ my account for a home visit but nothing came of this either.
Link Financial continue to phone and leave automated voicemails despite it being well beyond the prescription date, but I’m continuing to ignore and haven’t bothered to reply stating the debts are now prescribed as it’s really no hassle for me to ignore. If they still haven’t stopped by the time the debts are no longer visible on my credit report I may finally reply, but there’s still another 6 months or so before that’s the case.
I can only speak on behalf of someone living in Scotland, but the bottom line is, don’t be intimidated by the threats of legal action, home visits etc etc. until it gets to a point of letters before action, you have little to worry about until that happens.
The main reason I started this thread was to find out how many of these debt collection agencies actually followed through on their ‘threats’. It will be a case by case basis for sure, but thought I’d give an example of a scenario where someone who had a lot of debt across multiple agencies saw it out to be prescribed - as it seemed no one had actually spoken about this on here!1 -
It's good to hear how it panned out. Legal action does get taken of course but it seems that fear and intimidation is by far by biggest weapon used.
