Latest affordability complaint…FOS want info from 2013…

Hi, as some know, I had a positive outcome yesterday on my Zopa complaint.

my second is against Virgin CC for giving me 4 CC’s totalling £46k between 2013 & 2024. Now I know the one in 2013 is ok…no balance (tbh, I didn’t know I had that one).

However the investigator has emailed tonight looking for the following:

  • A copy of your bank statements showing your income, expenditure and savings for June to September 2013.
  • A copy of your bank statements showing your income, expenditure and savings for August to November 2014.
  • A copy of your bank statements showing your income, expenditure and savings for May to August 2017.
  • A copy of your bank statements showing your income, expenditure and savings for October 2019 to January 2020.
  • A copy of your bank statements showing your income, expenditure and savings for May to August 2024.
  • A copy of you full credit report
  • If you have any historical credit reports that include 2013, 2014 and 2017, please provide them
How on earth can I satisfy the historical requests? I know I can only get statements for 7 years ago…surely the FOS know this?? Also re credit reports from years ago???

Any guidance on a response re the really old stuff that I absolutely don’t have??

Some people will have saved PDF statements and/or old paper statements. You can ask your bank, but it will probably hit the seven year limit, no harm in asking though. The FOS do know the standard limit, but that is irrelevant as you may have the data they have requested.

Same again, you might have these saved.

Send them what you have and what you can get, they will not uphold an affordability complaint when you cannot demonstrate unaffordability, so you may only be able to dispute the more recent lending.

It sounds as though 2 of the credit limit increases were in the last 7 years (2020 and 2024), so FOS can assess the affordability of those. And a current credit record will go back 6 years, so will also cover those increases.

Thanks! To be fair I was only complaining against to most recent ones, but Virgin included the older ones in their investigation

They do need evidence to base their decision on, so they ask for what could help them instead of just assuming that nobody will have anything.

You just have to provide as much you can. I was surprised that Barclaycard were able to provide statements going bsck 20 years. Credit reports are more difficult as they are updated all the time with old information being removed.
