Hi all, my husband reaches state pension age and his due to receive his pension from September. How do we go about getting it? Do they write to him or is there something we need to do?
Many thanks

He should get an invitation around 3-4 months ahead of his retirement date. He can then apply on line and should receive notification of the first 2 payment dates and amounts within a couple of weeks. https://www.gov.uk/get-state-pension

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
They usually write to you 3 or 4 months before inviting you to claim
It's paid 4 weekly fortnightly or weekly
The default setting is 4 weekly...anything else you must request0 -
As of early this year, you have to telephone to claim it weekly from the start. Claiming online doesn't give the option. Theoretically you could claim online (four weekly) then register with "Manage Your State Pension" and change it to weekly. I believe you can only register and access this after you've claimed.luvchocolate said:They usually write to you 3 or 4 months before inviting you to claim

Even three years ago you couldn’t claim online and choose weekly.Qyburn said:

Yes, sorry. I meant as of early this year you still have to claim by phone to get weekly. I would guess the option has never been offered online. Four weekly seems to be presumed by everything except the forecast, which gives weekly and monthly figures. For example after after claiming and selecting weekly, the Pension Award letter gave four weekly figures.jem16 said:

To be fair they were very matter of fact, I was expecting at least a little pressure along the lines of "most people find four weekly more convenient"0
