Switching broadband provider

I have been with BT for donkey’s years for provision of my broadband and landline (yes, I still use a landline).

My current broadband is rubbish with a download speed of about 31 Mbps

I cannot get any faster because of the infrastructure – I have part fibre and aluminium cables from the cabinet. We haven’t even got copper where I live.

However, BT charge me £65 for my part fibre broadband. A separate fee for the landline calls.

There are many better deals to be had. I have never missed a payment to BT. I am still in contract with them for a few months.

Now that I have defaults as part of my self managed DMP, I am thinking that if I try to switch provider, the defaults will likely cause problems with a credit check and new provider.

Do phone companies take notice of these?

I would appreciate advice from any person with experience of a similar situation.

Thanks.

I've switched numerous times, the only time I had a problem was with Vodafone, the others were fine (Now, Plusnet, Fibrehop and Brillband)

I think you'll just have to try it really, the worst that can happen is that you just stay as you are

What's your reason for using a landline?

We have very poor mobile phone signal where I live. Semi rural area. No 5G in the area, and just about get 4G depending on where I am in the house.

I rang them (BT). I just have a landline with broadband. The best they could offer was a £7 discount but that would trigger a new 24 month contract.
I'll wait until current contract ends in 4 months. See if they can do any better at that time.
