sorry grumpy old man time by me on this thread
i know i will have to try and see if i can do do this myself
heard the word said  never seen a spreadsheet or excell/ or any of the other term when i looked up what this means for me
i can see hmrc have there own version of this to download

i do not think it does but  does anybody know for sure with the over 50k self employemnt income if banks savings interest is part of the equation as if it is not i will be under 50k in earnings 2026 and exempt for 1 more year at least

I believe age may be a basis on which you can be excluded from MTD.  Not sure how they decide on that but is it worth a go - something along the lines of I'm too old to learn this new fangled stuff?

Where did you find an HMRC version to download?  I found an open office spreadsheet on the Gov.UK page listing bridging software that is available but could not understand how to fill it in (lots of abbreviations) and then if you have filled it in how do you upload it?  I do think it is a bit of a cheek for HMRC to make you pay for something in order to submit your tax return but I really do not see a free version.

If you are under the £50k threshold for 24/5 why have they told you you need to use MTD for 26/7?  If you have until 27/8 why wouldn't they say that?

    Hi
We have recently written a news article about the HMRC MTD letters which links to our guidance and what information there is currently available on exemptions: https://www.litrg.org.uk/news/received-letter-hmrc-about-making-tax-digital .
    Hope you find it helpful.

The OP hasn't said his 24/25 income was under £50k.

I think his intention is to make sure his income for 25/26 stays under £50k.

I think I corrected myself to 24/5 because I thought that was the key year.  Being below £50k for 25/6 doesn't help does it?

OK I read you can get out of MTD if your qualifying income is below £30k for three years in a row.  But that still means 3 years of computer misery (or paying someone to do your tax returns).
