There is an consultation regarding LGPS ongoing. You can find this at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/local-government-pension-scheme-in-england-and-wales-access-and-fairness/local-government-pension-scheme-in-england-and-wales-access-and-fairness
I can see this becoming increasingly expensive!

That could be eye-wateringly expensive. Plus I can't see how the LGPS could easily identify those pensioners who could benefit by the back-dated amendments. They would have to invite pensioners to put in a claim if they think they would qualify - leading to a tsnunami of claims from everyone, 'just in case'. McCloud would be a stroll in the park compared to this!
When the details of the new CARE scheme were first confirmed my then colleagues and I couldn't believe how generous it was. We took bets then on how long it would take to water it down on the grounds of affordability.1
