Can I claim any money back from an old mortgage?

My home was repossessed 19 years ago but it sold at auction for double the loan amount is it to late to claim any money owed to me? I don't know my mortgage number but I do know the lender and I have contacted HM Land registry and they are going to send me a file of my details of when I lived there. Is this the correct way to do it please?

the mortgage outstanding would only be part of the elements that would be due post repossession.

Once the property is sold the proceeds from the sale will be used to:

    • Cover all existing mortgage debt
    • Clear any debt against the property
    • Clear any debt incurred during the repossession
    • Cover any fees associated to sell the property
this may include legal and court fees

Are you sure there was anything due to you? Was there any communication at the time?
  • I did not have any loans on the house and did not have any correspondence as I moved and did not leave a forwarding address. I'm not sure if I'm due anything back but have been told to look into it. The lender have said that they can't see a mortgage for me on the address but land registry say they have the details.

Why have you waited 19 years ? Records are likely to no longer exist.
  • I did not think I would be entitled to anything with the house being repossessed

They should have paid back whatever was left over after clearing the mortgage balance including any further interest built up during non payment, as well as any costs of the repossession and sale eg lawyers letters, eviction costs, auction fees, etc.

    Now:
Your claim would be statue barred as the activity all happened over 6 years ago and the evidence was available then. You're due £0.
