Solar panel assessment scam?

I've just been trying to cancel a "free" (I know, I know, but I was distracted) solar panel assessment appointment tomorrow but can't find any trace of the company and the phone number they gave me doesn't work.

Has anyone heard of Pei/Pay/Pey? Solar? I've got this as a phone number (0333201885866), but realise now it has too many digits. I asked them to email me to confirm, but surprise, surprise, no email.

I'm just kicking myself as I know better! The red flags were there, but I was already dealing with too much. Anyway, I wondered if anyone had heard of them or knows how I can contact them to cancel?

Yes, although I might start with a simple "sorry I've changed my mind" and save the harsh language for in case they persist!

I wouldn't even state a reason personally. Not even 'I've changed my mind'.  I'd simply say that you tried to cancel the appointment and found the number to be incorrect and no response to the email.  I'd then tell them that you now have an appointment and need to leave.

Thanks, yes, I think that's what I'll have to do. I can honestly say I've tried to ring them to cancel. I wondered where they are getting our names, address and phone number from but I think the company that installed our panels basically sold our details to all and sundry, then went out of business.  :#

There are loads of scams (think double glazing) around this industry sadly.
    -  10 x 400w LG + 6 x 550W SHARP BiFacial Panels + SE 3680 HD Wave Inverter + SE Optimizers. SE London.
    -  Triple aspect. (22% ENE/ 33% SSE/ 45% WSW)
    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

So this is the one where they say you need a new inverter and then try and charge a fortune.. My friend's landlady had a similar issue, although her inverter had failed. I asked her what the company had quoted her, and as I have panels was able to put her right and save her a packet!

If they really are scammers be prepared to just shut  the door in their face mid-sentence, because those people don't give up easily!

Yes, we do get these calls all the time, so usually, I'm good at just saying no.

It's always the inverter or the "buy a battery to store the solar" now, isn't it?

So did you manage to deal with it? Did they even turn up? If they did any advice for others?
