    No, you're not too old. While not all lenders will lend to you, a bit of research on the Internet or with a decent broker should throw up some options.

    As an immediate start, you might want to look at some of the small friendly societies who try hard to meet the needs of different consumers. A starting point might be The Family Building Society: www.familybuildingsociety.co.uk/mortgages/later-life-mortgages

    I'd go for the 'decent broker' route as was also suggested right at the start of this thread by ACG, there really should be an option there for a normal mortgage.

    ... now our (grown up) kids have finally settled and we want to live within 20 miles of them…(currently over 200 miles away 😢)
