Are Sainsburys / Nectar clamping down on voucher misuse?

Since forever & a day ago you could use someone's nectar voucher on your card. I'd been doing it since day dot & I know of others also.
You leave your voucher behind in the dispenser & it's one I can use then I'll use it or if a family member can't make use of theirs and they pass it over - I'll use it. Points have been had & money discounted all without issue.

These past few weeks though, not so much.

Had a Sainsburys worker check a voucher code against the Nectar card and then reject it. I already knew this worker as a bit of a snotty person anyway so thought it may just be that.

But then a 3x points voucher was used at the self scan only for it to just be rejected even though it was in date. No human involved, it was the system that didn't take it.

Just wondered if they'd made some announcement they're clamping down or if others had experienced the same here?

I don't think companies need to make announcements when they're clamping down on fraud

The Nectar system has been notoriously open to fraud for years, specifically just being able to quote a number online or print out a barcode to spend someone else's points on goods.

The ability to spend other people's vouchers was, I guess, just another symptom of just how lax the system was.

They've started to tighten up, you can now "lock" your points so that a confirmation has to be acknowledged in the app to allow spend in stores. Maybe the prevalence of Nectar credit cards which can easily add tens of pounds-worth of points a month to an account has been a prod.

Might be that the checking of printed vouchers against the person's Nectar account is a further tightening of the rules. In my naivety, I thought this checking was always done when redeeming vouchers.
