Contracting out of SERPS

I've been chasing up NI contribution missing years, turns out HMRC never notified DWP that I had paid two particular years. During the conversation with DWP they informed me I was contracted out for eight years early in my career, between 1977 ando 1985.
I get a reduced New State Pension due to the missing years, which will be rectified and being contracted out. The BSC pension I get from being contracted out is quite small and not subject to inflation rises.
I have a total of forty years of full contributions and eight years of contracted out.
My question is due to the amount of full contribution years I have should I get a full pension?

What is your current weekly award (the 2025-26 rate)?Bigrice said:I've been chasing up NI contribution missing years, turns out HMRC never notified DWP that I had paid two particular years. What do you mean by "will be rectified"?
Which tax year did you reach State Pension age in?0 -
You have completely misunderstood how contracting out affects the pension, there is no such concept as full or contracted out years. 48 total years may or may not be enough for a full pension depending on the balance of pre and post 2016 years. If you purchased years 2015-16 or earlier they may not have added any value, you cannot simply replace contracted out service. How much is the current weekly amount, how many full years 2015-16 and earlier and 2016-17and later are showing on your record, which years did you top up, when did you reach state retirement, are there any gaps 2016-17 and later?Bigrice said:I've been chasing up NI contribution missing years, turns out HMRC never notified DWP that I had paid two particular years. Thanks for the feedback. I probably don't fully it and certainly didn't at the time.
I get currently £178 a week.
I was 65 in Oct 2017 and took my state pension.
I didn't top up, HMRC made a mistake and didn't notify DWP that I had paid my last two years, 2026/16 and 2016/17.
I stopped paying in 2017. I was self employed 2010 to 2023.
I paid NI for 49 years 1984/85 was incomplete (although I believe this is an error).
Hope the additional info helps. Thanks again.0 -
PS Sorry, missing info:
My full years are 1985/86 to 2016/17 and prior to 1977 back to 1969. Only 1984/85 was not full.
Rectified means HRMC was informing DWP of their error.
£178 a week is what I get now before the pending increase.0 -
So it was class 2 self employed contributions rather than class 3 voluntary. 15-16 will have made no difference to your pension, you already had in excess of the max useable 35 years, actually likely only 30 as you were contracted out, so the uplift to your pension will be £6.58 per week plus any back pay.1
