Playstation 3 - 40gb or 60gb?

hi

Thinking about one of these now the Xmas rush has died down.

Is the 60gb one only really worth thinking about if you really want to play PS2 games?

And do you think £279.99 from Play is as cheap as I'll get for a 40gb?

i thought I had seen £249.99 in Tesco but they certainly aren't online... anyone know?

Thanks
.

If you can get a 60GB version get it, the 40GB won't play PS2 games. You can pick up ps2 games for next to nothing and there is a huge catalog of decent games. ohh and you get the extra storeage.

My husband is wondering this too.
He orginally wanted to get the 60gb due to be able to play his ps2 games, but hes now decided on the 40gb, because he said the whole reason he wants the ps3 is for next gen gaming, so wouldnt use it for playing ps2 games on.
He will still be keeping the ps2 for playing those games on, but the ps3 will be soley used for the ps3 gaming.
I wish they stop bring new stuff out , costing me a fourtune new hd tv just so we can have the ps3!!!!!!!!!

  • The 60gb is no longer being made. When the stocks have gone there will be no more of these models. I think they are better than the 40gb version, yes you can play your old PS2 games but it also does so much more.

If you want to hang on there is an 80gb version due to be released in the spring sometime, don't know anything about these.

Yeah - I've had same thoughts re PS2 games now being a bit old hat... but stepson just got 2 new games for Xmas...
But only thinking of one really if it's CHEAP - so prob 40gb will be answer... I'm wondering if you can get it anywhere for less than £279.99...

Think the 40GB is a good buy. I have a few friends with the 60GB and they don't go near their old games as the HD stuff looks so much better.
I got a Sony TV and PS3 after noticing a deal on the av forums and the grabbit board. The PS3 is going on ebay and I think a lot of others will end up there in the next week with folk who opted for a similar deal. Might be worth keeping an eye on.

There are known hardware issues with the 40GB PS3. A friend of mine had purchased his 40GB PS3 in December 07 and after just one week the blu-ray disc failed and he was unable to play any games. He has had to send it off to Sony who will either repair or replace his PS3 and therefore he had no PS3 over the Xmas period!

Duthie71, your freind took the wrong course of action he should have returned it to the place he bought it. failing within a few weeks isnt acceptable.
