NI top up

Hi, I am more than 12 years before I get the state pension but at the moment I am long term not working due to disability. I have my state pension contributions forecast and it shows I have 34 years contributions. It says however I need 36 years NI but I thought it was only 35 years you neen. Is this due to being contracted out of something? Thanks

35 years is only relevant to those building up an NI record from 2016 onwards.  It is totally irrelevant to someone your age.

You may well need 36 years due to being contracted out at some point before 2016.

Are you claiming a benefit which attracts NI credits?
