@Avaschofield - you really need to do what your NWNF lawyers advise you to do - otherwise why engage them in the first place?
If you go against their advice and settle, you will almost certainly be clobbered with a bill for your lawyer's expenses and that might exceed the settlement.
I'm not an expert on NWNF arrangements but weren't you advised to take out after the event insurance to cover unexpected costs?1 -
Ayr_Rage said:Good point @Pollycat, the NWNF firm very likely have a clause whereby they get part of their fee if @Avaschofield settles directly with their old employer.
The vultures always want their pickings.
At least here the OP has been able to sue their employer who has admitted liability for the injury, and will get some recompense. Without a NWNF arrangement I doubt very much that the OP would have been able to afford to engage a lawyer to act for her. NWNF must be a better arrangement than not being able to afford to sue at all.
As @Ergates has said, the OP's lawyers have got her this far so they are legitimately entitled to be rewarded for the work they've done. They only get paid if the case is won. So long as the OP follows their advice and doesn't break the T&Cs of their agreement anything she has to pay will be minimal.
I don't see anything wrong or unfair in that.
(Another benefit of NWNF arrangements is that it helps prevent the courts getting clogged up with hopeless cases that have no chance of winning)5
