Mortimer Clarke

Hey guys, so I asked Mortimer Clarke for proof of debt ownership using the prove-it letter provided on here & they sent the debt back to Cabot financial immediately without providing any proof.
Does that mean they can’t provide it? Or do I now need to do the same to Cabot?
I have other debts with other companies also, shall I just send the letter out to them as well & see what happens?
Also, if they cannot provide the proof then does that mean I can just ignore them moving forward?
I was getting 2 or 3 phone calls per day from Mortimer Clarke & have been considering changing my phone number as it’s rather annoying. I block every number that calls but they leave automated voicemails which clog up my inbox so can never get to the real ones that are actually important without sitting through 30 voicemails a week lol.

I would write (old fashioned pen and paper); to Mortimer Clark to say ALL communications be by letter only. Say you consider further calls harassment and that you will make a formal complaint if they continue to ring. Dont know who is the authority to complain to (sorry), assume as they are solicitors it may be the Law Society
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)1 -

As for the others, I will certainly do this, thank you.0 -
I presume they've sent it back to Cabot so that they can service your request
See what comes next.
Obviously you don't pay a debt buyer until they can prove it's your debt and they own it. How old are these debts? Ever been a 6-year period when you didn't pay?1 -
Its a typical response to a prove-it letter, Mortimer Clark are Cabot`s tame solicitors, their legal arm if you like.
Obviously they deal with legal issues, and have no interest or experience in matters of compliance, so have returned the account to the mother company, presumably to deal with your enquiry.

Ah ok, I will see what happens then. Thank you for clarifying!I can’t afford any payments on it anyway as I’m paying off a hefty CCJ right now.0

A large CCJ and other problem debts, can I ask what these all add up to? Are you buying or renting, have you looked at insolvency to get a clean start?0
