Use split tickets
Buy a Railcard.

LNER release tickets up to as many as 26 weeks from date of travel. Lumo have the cheapest advance tickets, but only from 12 weeks from date of travel.

I use trainsplit.comThe website helps you find the cheapest tickets. Sometimes you might have a long connection time you can consider whether it's worth paying more for a faster service.0

It may be worth looking at Megabus too if you want cheap. Takes a little bit longer but seems to be from about £40 each return.
