Newly self employed

Apologies if this has been answered previously but I couldn’t find a previous discussion on this and I always find these forums very helpful.
My partner has started a new job in February this year and is a subcontractor and pays deductions through CIS. He hasn’t worked for 10 years as was a carer for his mum until she passed away.
neither of us are in any way knowledgeable about self employment/sub contracting etc and wondered if anyone could provide some guidance please

Does he need to complete a tax return ? Does he need to instruct an accountant? He has asked in the office several times but is told that he will more than likely receive a tax rebate/bill at some point.
Thank you for reading

Yes, he will need to do a self assessment tax form. It would be unusual to use an accountant but if you are particularly nervous about it etc then maybe pay for them to do it once inc some time to explain to you how they completed it and then you can do it yourself going forward. Alternatively do the 2024/2025 yearly (covering Feb 25 - 5 Apr 2025) as early as you can (which is now if you've already registered) and if you have trouble doing it then you've plenty of time to get help from an accountant as its not due until end Jan 260 -
Many thanks for replying and sharing that information0
