The site you signed up for is a lead generation site for a certain salesforce.  It's a sprat to catch a mackerel site.

...but absolutely no harm in making use of the sprat while it's both useful and free... OP is clearly alert to the situation, so far from being stupid, they are making good use of what they signed up for (albeit slightly accidentally!).

I would still be cautious if the salesman is polite and reassuring to be honest, sometimes they can afford to be patient if they are eyeing up a potential windfall
