Nationwide £50 thank you for child trust fund account

My daughter received a cheque for £50 for a thank you but she doesnt have a bank account,i was advised to go direct to nationwide and cash it with them, all they did was pay it into her child trust account after i asked them to cash it and took ID with me. Why would they send a cheque out instead of paying it directly to the account why get a child excited like that and then they have to wait until the age of 18 until they can have it i dont understand the logic of it at all? I have a mortgage with them and got a cheque that i can use straight away, does anyone know what the deal with this is? tia

Did you make it clear that you did not want it paid in as sounds like they misunderstood what you wanted. And I suspect too late to do much now as the time to challenge this would have been when you were in the branch

Probably doesn't help now but you could have opened an account in your daughter's name and likely been able to withdraw the money after the cheque had cleared.

If the kid's upset just give her £50. If that's too easy then take an "IOU £50 when I'm 18" note in exchange.

I spoke with nationwide who said she should have been offered to open an account, which would have been ideal as i have been looking into setting her up an account she can use, they will investigate and see if anything can be done. If I had £50 I could just give her do you think she would be that excited about getting £50,some of us cant afford to hand out that much money so its not easy.
