Tax rebate…is this a record

So…..After retiring last October i took my first ufpls a couple of months later. I paid too much tax but did not submit a claim as I knew I would be completing my self assesment this April. Did self assesment on Tuesday 22nd April expecting tax return of about £3k probably in the autumn….WOW….just checked bank account and refund is pending and will be in account Monday…..3 working days after submitting…is this a record???

Sounds relatively normal to me. I do a self assessment every year and when I’m due a refund (not this year unfortunately) I get it within a few days.

Why would you expect a delay of several months after submitting a Self Assessment return?

That can happen but is far from the norm.

Easy to forget that Covid created a mammoth backlog of work. Resources are finite. The world never returns to normal like a light switch. Likewise the technology is progressively streamlining the entire process.
