Barclays bank mortgage discharge confirmation

I hope someone can help me! I have sold my family home which has never been sold since it was built in the 1940's. My mother worked for Barclays for 30yrs & she got a staff mortgage to buy the house. She paid the mortgage off in early 1980's and passed away in 2019. I am sole beneficiary & have sold the house. I have never been "chased" for mortgage payments in 6yrs but now, despite numerous emails to Barclays from me asking for confirmation the mortgage has been discharged, Barclays have never responded (emails started 2021)
My solicitor has also tried to get this confirmation from Barclays without success. Can anyone give some advice to get Barclays to actually respond please?

Are you saying, without actually saying, Barclays still has a charge over the property and you have agreed a sale of the property, but haven't actually sold it yet?I am a mortgage broker. Raising a complaint appears to be a good way of getting such "difficult" queries onto the desk of somebody who'll actually do something.0
