ADS (Scotland) when sharing a house purchase

Wonder if anyone can help clarify the rules on the additional dwelling supplement. My wife and I and my sister and her husband will all be sharing in the purchase of an additional home, with a value of £90k. There is a mention in the exemptions that if any individual share is under £40k, the ADS does not apply. Would this apply where there are multiple buyers, or do my wife and I count as one buyer? Any advice would be very much appreciated.
