do each council have different rules for calculating council tax payable on an empty house to be sold as part of an estate, probate was granted 2 months ago
Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...

Some councils will give first six months free, then have to pay for the remaining six months,
others will give a 50% reduction for one year.
After that you have to pay in full, that is what I have learnt through personal experience.0 -

The Council Tax (Exempt Dwellings) Order 1992
I think there was also something proposed last year to exempt such properties from the empty / second home premium for a year after probate has been obtained, but not sure if that has been made law.
I'm not sure what the rules are for other parts of the UK.0 -
