Outstanding Debt

Hello, I need some help. My daughter went to a private school, and I could not pay the fees for the last two years. I was going to take her out and place her at another school. her dad then proceeded to meet with the school and said he would pay and not pay me any maintenance in doing so. Two years on I have now received a letter from a solicitor that they want the payment in 7 days, I have tried to call my ex and he said that I signed the agreement with the school not him when she started there. I do not have the money and feel my only choice is to sell my house to pay this and would have to then go into rented. Please can you help me, I am so distraught.

No you do not need to sell the house!
This is the sort of debt that is pursued but is still a non-priority debt. I'm assuming that you can't pay it and your ex won't
Is your daughter still at the school? You said 'went'. Is it still an option to get her into another school (which was your plan) before this school takes the initiative?
The actual debt we can deal with later
Edit: what about getting the CMS involved for unpaid maintenance?1 -
How much are they asking for?
Ignore the 7 day response time, that`s just to get your attention, the debt is just another non priority debt, which if appropriate you would pay at an affordable rate according to your budget, not their demands.
I think the idea you should sell your house to pay this, is a little extreme.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
