Civil Service pension surviving partner pension start date?

I am 7 years older than my wife, I have retired early and currently 58 years old.
Planning ahead, if I were to die at say 62 in four years time (hopefully not but I do feel peaky) when would she start getting money from my pension? Would it be straightaway or does she have to wait until her normal pension age of 68 before it would start?
Hopefully not going to be a problem as I actually intend to live forever but do need to plan ahead if she would be without income for a period of years!

Bear in mind that 'straightaway' doesn't mean 'happens instantly when you die'. There will be the inevitable paperwork and setting up a spouse's pension on the system, which will be backdated to the date of your death, but it could be a month or so before actual payment is made.chubsta said:Thanks for the info - just doing some calculations and planning and unfortunately haven’t think of such thingsGoogling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
she would be fine for any time it takes to sort everything out, just didn't want her to have to wait 15 years to get it if the worst happens! Cheers for the replies...Marcon said:
