Portfolio mortgages

Just looking for any advice on portfolio mortgages, as I know nothing about them.

I own a few low value BTL properties and like the idea of having one loan secured over the whole portfolio, rather than several separate loans.

Two reasons I find them appealing. 1). I could pay off the mortgage on my main dwelling. 2). I like the idea of one loan going out each month, rather than several.

Equity wise, I’d be looking at around 50% LTV.

Not really my bag so I am not best placed to answer this but its not really the norm to do that. 
Thats fine in itself, but if something is not normal - its usually more expensive. 

Rather than one charge over all of them, it might be cheaper to go down the route of multiple mortgages, but all with the same lender on the same product taken out at the same time.

Although you also have to check all of the properties fit criteria and other criteria is met - ie some lenders will only lend against maybe 5-10 properties with a maximum loan size of say £1m. Its probably worth using a broker one who maybe specialises in BTLs/portfolio landlords because I know if this hit my desk I would not have a clue.
