Aviva pension contribution . Which tax year?

I sent funds to my Aviva pension on Fri night, 4 April and my bank statement shows that they were sent by faster payments (and so should have got there within a few hours)
I subsequently sent Aviva my instructions for allocating the money to my funds on Sat, 5 April.

But Aviva say the "acceptance date" is Mon, 7 April....and that they received the money by "bank transfer"

I'm chasing Aviva to establish what is going on, but am I correct in thinking that my contribution was within, and that the accompanying tax relief should be ascribed to, the last tax year?

Unlikely.  I suspect that somewhere on their site there would have been a clear cut off time for receipt of funds to be allocated to last tax year, my ISA provider certainly did.

The funds would have hit Aviva's bank account on Monday. As the business day ends normally at 5pm.

Whilst faster payments can be made out of hours, the receiving bank will have the date of the next working day if it is received out of hours.

No.   As you gave the instruction past the cut off date, its likely the instructions were only looked at on Monday and the matching of the expectation and the funds would have been on the 7th April.

It would have been possible for them to do it with a payment made on Saturday but you needed the instructions to be in by Friday at the latest.
