Recording of Hours

I work in the NHS doing shifts. Some years ago I went on maternity leave and, rather than recording my absence as 37.5 hours per week, I was left on my rota. Due to the way rotas are designed within the service I work for, unless you have the maximum available allocation of annual leave, you are automatically put into a deficit, i.e. you are not allocated enough shifts to cover your contractual hours. Subsequently, throughout 12 months of maternity leave, I have allegedly accrued an hours deficit.

Additionally, on returning to work and taking the annual leave I'd accrued, rather than it being input that I'd taken annual leave, I was assigned "rest days" and had the lump sum of annual leave deducted, almost to cancel each other out. Having manually calculated my hours as though they'd been input as expected, there is again a further deficit.

My union have not been helpful in terms of advice so I hoped to seek some here. I will have to pursue the case above senior management so I want to be fairly certain I have a point to make before submitting anything.

It an error and you should have a code to assign your maternity hours in your time booking system. You continue to accrue holiday during you maternity leave. I would write a letter stating the facts and asking for the error to be corrected.

I was assigned to a particular code to state I was on maternity, but the issue was that I was not given a full year of contracted hours whilst on maternity, resulting in a deficit.
