What other debts does he have? The Capquest one will be 0% interest and will have a fixed date when it drops off his credit report, so there may be much better uses for his money.0

Paying a settlement offer = not bad
Adding debt that is unsecured to a mortgage = very very bad
The second takes you from a position where your home is not at risk to the position where it is very much at risk.My Debt free diary
