17 Years Post BR

Hello, 17 years ago today I went to the Royal Courts of Justice to file my bankruptcy.  I used to be a frequent poster here in the Bankruptcy and Living with it forum but I don't come in here often now.  At the time I was so thankful for the financial crash of 2008 as without that I probably would have lost my home.  I was able to get my house valued very low and therefore my husband could buy the beneficial interest for £500, on top of that my fixed deal mortgage was coming to an end meaning my mortgage was going to go up by about £600 per month.  Thanks to interest rates going down, my monthly payment went down which made my mortgage affordable.  I've now got a brilliant credit rating and have been able to buy a car on credit (need it for work) and I have a couple of credit cards that I pay off every month.  I have to have one for my business expenses.  I just want all of you to know that no matter how desperate you are feeling, there is always light at the end of the tunnel and now I hardly ever think about my bankruptcy.  I am now able to laugh - I remember Barclays was always the first to ring me at 8:30 every morning and at 8:59 pm every evening.  I also remember the satisfaction I had telling them that I was bankrupt!  Anyway you will get through this!  xx

Oh the joys of the financial crash. Friday nights the trolls would come out and target the BR forum and the Bankrupt Inn.

IRL friends lost their house because neither didn't understand the implications of securing a business loan on it, and another's business went into administration because one of their largest customers folded owing them and others a lot, like dominoes.
